 Divergent

directed by Neil Burger

About

I've wanted to watch Divergent for a long time after hearing so many people compare it to other dystopian stories. As someone who enjoys action, strong female protagonists, and futuristic worlds, I was curious to see why it became such a popular series.

Synopsis

In a future society divided into five factions based on personality traits, sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose where she truly belongs. During the Choosing Ceremony, she discovers that she is Divergent, meaning she doesn't fit into a single faction. Forced to keep her identity secret, Tris enters a dangerous new life where she must face brutal training, political conspiracies, and impossible choices that could change the future of her entire society.

First Impressions

From the opening scenes, I was immediately drawn into the world of the factions. The concept is original, easy to understand, and makes you wonder which faction you would choose yourself. The action keeps the story moving, while Tris's journey from an uncertain teenager to a courageous young woman feels believable. I also really enjoyed the chemistry between Tris and Four, which adds just the right amount of romance without taking away from the main story.

Favorite Moments

One of my favorite moments is when Tris begins her Dauntless initiation. Watching her overcome each challenge and slowly gain confidence is incredibly satisfying. The rooftop zipline scene especially stands out—it perfectly captures the freedom, excitement, and fear that come with starting a completely new life.

Favorite Quote

One quote that really stayed with me is when Four says, "Be brave." It's short, but it perfectly reflects one of the film's biggest themes. Throughout the story, bravery isn't about being fearless—it's about facing your fears and choosing to move forward anyway.

Final Thoughts

Divergent was everything I hoped it would be: exciting, emotional, and full of memorable characters. I loved discovering the different factions, following Tris's growth, and watching the relationship between Tris and Four develop naturally. If you enjoy dystopian stories with action, romance, and strong world-building, I definitely recommend giving this film a watch.

Rating: 3.5/5

Until the next story,

  1. Divergent is one of my fav dystopian films, along with “Darkest minds”, “Everything Everything”, “Maze Runner” and of course the infamous, “The Hunger Games”. Have you given the other Divergent films a watch? If so, I would also love your opinion on them! <3
